Our primary mission is to identify novel drugs using structural biology and to relate the structural information on proteins and drugs in order accelerate drug discovery research. We use computational and experimental methods in our research.

TODAY we are working on:

Antimicrobial peptides: One major focus in the group is beta-lactamase mediated antibacterial resistance. We have recently identified a novel chimeric peptide that targets the intracellular beta-lactamase enzyme thereby killing resistant bacteria.

Cheminformatics: We combine beta-lactamase structure data with the data on available beta-lactamase inhibitors to identify patterns. We are expanding this data set and we are using different similarity algorithms to guide future beta-lactamase drug design efforts.

Pharmacological chaperones: We are also interested in designing pharmacological chaperones against lysosomal storage diseases.
